Senses Check-In

Check in with your Senses

You can check in with or put your attention toward sensory experiences to connect with your mindbody system, activate your senses, and to feel safe in the present moment. This may help you “get out of your head” with negative or spiraling thought habits and into your body in the here and now.  Try it out!

Ask yourself:

What are my ears hearing right now?

What do my eyes see?

What does my mouth and tongue taste?

What do my hands feel touching my body or skin?

What does my nose smell?

Create a sensory experience for yourself by:

lighting a candle and smelling the scent.

Squirting or spraying perfume/cologne into the air or on your wrist.

Rubbing essential oil like lavender on your palms and inhaling the scent.

Eat some sort of juicy fruit like an orange or grapes and savor and taste its juice.

Wrap a favorite blanket around you and feel its texture.

Snuggle with a pet and rub your hands over your cat or dog’s fur.

Put on instrumental music and focus on the melody and sense the resonance within you.

Gently splash warm or cool water on your hands and face without drying off too quickly.
