WRC: Fostering “In-Person” Social Connection for Wellness!
What is the Wellness Resource Center?
The mission of the WRC is linked to James’ overall goal for Studio Y which is to build a strong, flexible community where members can access resources to increase and sustain physical and mental wellness. Yoga is the central practice and core of Studio Y, and the Wellness Resource Center is an extension of our yoga practice “off the mat.” The Center is a place where people who visit the studio can connect with one another socially before and after classes, engage with a calendar of Studio events and services, and access physical fitness and mental health resources from our ever-expanding library and from wellness professionals within our community.
Where is the Wellness Resource Center?
It is located at Studio Y across from the men’s locker room. It contains seating and space for socializing, small-group activities and workshops, and a place for engaging with the library of resources on the bookshelf. The room will also be used by wellness professionals providing services such as nutrition counseling, lifestyle coaching, mental health counseling, massage, reiki, meditation, and other services for individuals and small groups.
When will the Wellness Resource Center be open?
The WRC is open now. Feel free to spend time in the space reading from the bookshelf or sitting on the couch and chatting with friends before or after classes! We will open “officially” with programming in February, 2023 with the theme of Attention as it relates to Love and Community! Be sure to look inside the WRC for postings, watch for studio emails for announcements and updates, visit the website, and follow Studio Y on Facebook and Instagram.
Why a Wellness Resource Center?
Because we go further together than alone! Connection among members is critical for optimizing individual health wellness. And you, members, are our most vital resource at Studio Y! James’ desire is to enhance members’ Studio Y experience by offering more products and services to grow and sustain a strong, flexible, and fit community.
Who and How will the Resource Center operate?
Maureen Bakis, Yoga Teacher, Wellness Educator, and Mental Health Counselor is our point person who will create and maintain wellness content for the studio and facilitate community-building, events-planning, and the wellness programming for the studio. Maureen’s role in connecting members with wellness resources will include coordinating the scheduling and use of the WRC for the delivery of wellness services by independent contractors. Maureen will also be conducting her consulting business and private mental health counseling practice, Landscapes for Learning, LLC, from the Wellness Resource Center. Maureen’s wellness programs will be marketed to teens and adults in the North Shore area and always open to Studio members at discounted cost.
